DR Team Thursday Update

 From Cristine:
Thursday Dominican update....
Started our morning with some rain but it stopped in time for us to fill the truck with buckets and head to the open walls church.  We split up into 3 teams and walked into the community with buckets, going door to door handing them out.  We took school photos to the classrooms and handed them out to the kids and then blessed the teachers with buckets. This afternoon was spent back at the old camp working on the new basketball court.  We raked and shoveled rocks and some laid bricks.  It was super hot and sunny over there.  The large team from Georgia arrived right before dinner..so there are an additional 45 more people sharing the camp with us.  Another church came tonight and we blessed them with buckets as well as the night guards from our camp as well as Felix the night guard at the old camp.  Tomorrow before we leave we will be passing out the remaining handful of buckets.
Please keep us all in your prayers for safe travels tomorrow as we are facing a very long day and night coming back home.  See you soon!

Wednesday Updates

Here are some pics and updates from the DR team from yesterday! Thanks Cristine and Lighthouse Projects!

Surprise, the container was released from customs!!
Today we did our free day early and headed to Santo Domingo to shop at the market, tour the old city and then went to see the underwater caves called the 3 eyes.
The market is always an experience and with so many new people it was GREAT! The tour of the old city was great and we got to feed the pigeons... First time for Hailey and I. Yes, this is my 3rd trip and her 2nd.. but we have never fed the pigeons. The trip to the underwater caves was pretty neat. Lots of stairs though. But the guy that dove off the wall was pretty exciting!
We came back to camp and had a late lunch and then met the truck pulling in and unloaded the shipment. Tonight after dinner and devotions we will pass some buckets out to some families that will come here. So we are excited and looking forward to that. Tomorrow we are hopeful to get the rest of the buckets handed out in the community. We are almost done here and will head home soon!

And... the container has arrived and been unloaded.. And the first 2 buckets have been graciously given.

Tuesday DR Updates

Sorry this is late for "Tuesday". Here is what the team did yesterday! Thanks Cristine for the pics and update!

Dominican team Tuesday update!
Today has been a hot and busy day! We finished pouring the columns that were started yesterday and worked on painting. We finished up with some great devotional conversation and then a little baby shower for Felix Acosta Ortiz and his wife Fifi and daughter. It's gonna be a long day tomorrow.... but I won't tell you why yet... It's a surprise!!

(I hear the buckets made it out of customs, so that is what the team will be doing ALL day today!) =)

Happy Monday from the DR Team!

Post from Cristine!
Happy Monday from the Dominican team! We had a hard working day today! We shoveled rocks and sand, hauled water, and made/poured concrete at the church site in the morning. The plan was to go back in the afternoon, but we shifted plans and stayed back to head over to the old camp and mix some more concrete to help with a basketball court that they are making. It was nice for those of us that have been/stayed there to see it again and the work they have been doing and nice for those who had never been there to see the other side of the compound. It was also exciting for some because as most of us that have come before know.... that side has more tarantulas than where we now stay. So, as far as I heard there were 3 large and one baby tarantula caught/seen while doing cement. This prompted some great excitement...good and not so good!
Our team is holding together pretty good wellness wise. I was not feeling well this morning, but some rest after lunch and the Grace of God I woke up refreshed and back to myself. Hailey has quite the rosie nose and cheeks so lathering up more sunscreen tomorrow and aloe lotion tonight to try and help heal that. Our gracious hosts/translators from here, Luchy and Felix have been suffering from some upper respiratory stuff the last couple of days. So please keep them in your thoughts to heal quickly. More to come tomorrow!!

Easter Sunday in the DR!

I know I'm a little jealous I'm not there on this very special Sunday, but I am so excited that the team had the opportunity to experience DR at Easter! Here is a post and some pictures from Cristine!

Easter Sunday in the Dominican....
Today was a good day. We spent our morning at the Haitian church in the community where Manoash Clervin translated for us. We enjoyed the afternoon by relaxing by the pool and some enjoyed a bit of a diving contest and then some Marco Polo. A great game of baseball was played with some of the Dominican children and then more pool time and relaxing before a dinner of chicken and rice. Then we wrapped up with team devotions. We had a couple spots of light rain earlier today and then a couple pretty heavy downpours this evening. Hoping that it is all done with and dried up by morning when we head back to the work site.
